I work for Fedex and our brokerage fee is $10. We welcome recipients to self-clear their shipments with the local CBSA office, it is across the street from us. But what we do make clear is that you are saving $10 to come down to our office, drive across the street to CBSA (well before their closing time at 4pm, mind you) and then bring your stamped documents back to us so we can then release the shipment. 99% of customers choose us to clear the freight. The travel and time wasted spent performing self-clearance is not worth the $10 to them.
Please don't lump Fedex in with UPS, we are miles apart in brokerage fees!!

I order merchandise from the USA all the time and UPS is not only more expensive, but also a fraudulent scam! Always use the services of a third party customs broker who clears UPS packages for around 50% less than what UPS charges. Typically the broker will clear the paperwork and bills for the taxes and UPS will delivery the items do your door without charging anything. Here’s the link to a fee comparison chart between UPS and third party brokers, hope it paints a better picture: http://baycitybrokers.com/courier-customs-clearance

It should be noted that Citroën's financial crises partly was due to the high tariffs on imports of car parts that the French government launched in 1929. Citroen was very dependent on American parts and technology, which was expensive in itself. The higher tariffs was the straw that broke the donkey's back. The tariffs were also the reason behind Citroën's almost possessive hunt for lower weight (which was one of the reasons why the early Tracton bodies cracked). I hope this will be covered in the movie. The Citroën financial crises was not all the result of poor decisions by André Citroën and the general financial crises, which actually hit France at a slower pace and later than it hit America.
